THE "RICE IS LIFE"LEANDRO SINCO
5-KILOMETER CHALLENGE



Inaugural Staging: JULY 23, 2006 at 5:30 am (Sunday)
Rizal Boulevard, Dumaguete City

Rationale:
"Rice-the grain that had shaped the diets, economies and the culture of billions of people in Asia, Life without rice
is unthinkable." This is from the Asia Rice Foundation website. One of the ARF major objectives is to "preserve
rice cultural heritage, encourage appreciation for rice and raise the level of public awareness, educate the public
on the importance of rice."

A Foundation University Sports and Wellness Event with the ASIA RICE FOUNDATION & the Negros Athletic
Association (NAA) The Foundation University, Dumaguete City offers courses in the field of Agriculture Education.
It has three farms, two located in Tanjay City and one in the municipality of Amlan to support the program. Rice is
a predominant crop of the farms, along with livestock, fish, sugar, vegetables and fruits.

Recognizing the significance of the "Rice is Life" Campaign of the Asia Rice Foundation in educating the youth
and the people in the community in appreciating the importance of rice to day-to-day life, the Foundation
University will institutionalized an ANNUAL EVENT in support of this campaign. This event is the "Leandro Sinco
'Rice is Life' 5-Kilometer Run-Walk Challenge." The specifics of the event are as follows:

Objectives:

1. To institutionalize an annual event in celebration and in support of the "Rice is Life" Campaign of the ASIA RICE
FOUNDATION;

2. To stage a 5-kilometer run-walk to be participated in by the youth in schools and people from the barangays
wherein the winning participants will be awarded-instead of monies and trophies-Rice, the symbol of Life; and

3. To create public awareness of the importance of rice to survival and the preservation of cultural heritage.

The Events, Participants and Prizes:

1. Recreational Largest Delegation Three cavans of rice

2. Competitive
A. Children below 13- Six cavans to be (boys & girls) divided among winners

B. 13 - 17 years (men & women) [Same as above]

C. 18 and above (men & women Open) [Same as above]

Total prizes: 21 cavans of milled Rice to be awarded.



Organizational, Technical and Medical and Facilities Requirements:

1. The organizational set-up will be handled by the Negros Athletic Association (NAA), headed by Victor Vicente
"Dean" Sinco, Vice-President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) of the Foundation University.

2. The facilities of the event will be prepared and provided by the City of Dumaguete through the City Tourism
Council in coordination with the City Traffic Management Office (TMO), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the
General Services Office (GSO), in promotion of Sports Tourism and making Dumaguete City the destination for
sports enthusiasts.

3. The technical and medical aspects of the event will be handled by the Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club,
Inc. (MDRCI), an entity that is experienced in the conduct of road running-walking events and the Philippine
National Red Cross Negros Oriental Chapter for first aid.

Course Detail:
The assembly area will be in front of Shakey's and Honey Comb along the Rizal Boulevard. The marathon will
start in front of Honey Comb and run through Rizal Boulevard going to Looc By-pass Road, then turn left to
Hibbard Avenue straight to Perdices Street passing the Cathedral Belfry pass across the Old Banica Bridge; then
through Canday-ong Road turning left and cross the New Tinago Bridge then back to the City's Bay front the Rizal
Boulevard for the finish. Thus, the 5 kilometers run will be an out and back course starting and finishing on the
Boulevard.

Distance: 1 loop (Round) ±5 kilometers
