INTRODUCTION Dumaguete City - the Rizal Boulevard - the City's Bay Front is known for its rich sporting tradition. The Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club, Inc. has successfully hosted five (5) running events in the area. Other events such as live band concerts, colourful parades and pageantries- May: the Santa Cruzan and November: the Sandurot Festivals, December: the food exhibits and other commercial displays along the Boulevard provide year-round excitement. Amateur sports, physical fitness and recreational activities occupy a special place in the hearts of Dumagueteños as manifested by the number of walkers, runners and promenaders seen along the bay front. Dumaguete City is the home of the Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club, Inc. (MDRCI) a group of individuals and professionals who brings with them their many years of expertise in the areas of sports administration, officiating and competition to stage the 1st 21-k Dumaguete Peace Finisher's Marathon and the 1st September 21st Dumaguete Peace Prayer Rally. The Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club, Inc. (MDRCI) is pleased to submit this program. Through this project, we hope to showcase to each and every one the hospitality and unique culture of what is known as the "City of Gentle People." RATIONALE It aimed to promote the UN International Day of Peace: Peace One Day by celebrating it through a prayer rally and sports activity. An opportunity to initiate a fund-raising activity for Peace One Day and the possibility of a Press Conference will be held to kick-off the start of the fund raising campaign until 21st of September 2006. The donations will support Peace One Day to continue their work in bringing Peace One Day, the UN International Day of Peace, a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, to the attention of the world's people. EVENT A one day event that focuses on the UN International Day of Peace that will include the following activities: (1) The 1st September 21st Dumaguete Peace Prayer Rally. The candle and prayer activity will be led by the Mountain View Childhaven Foundation, Inc. with the coordination from the different ethnic groups. (2) The 1st 21-k Dumaguete Peace Finisher's Marathon. It is a 21-kilometers running activity, walking is encouraged. The activity is included in the 9-month Dumaguete Free Marathon Clinic program supported by the City Tourism Council and the City Health Office and managed by the Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club (MDRCI), Inc. ---- as the Finisher's Preparation Run for the Dumaguete International Half Marathon on November 19, 2006. Dumaguete City is a city in the Philippine province of Negros Oriental. It is the capital, principal seaport, and largest city of Negros Oriental. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 102,265 people. A person from Dumaguete City is called a "Dumagueteño". The city is nicknamed The City of Gentle People. Dumaguete City is referred to as a university town because of the presence of seven universities and colleges, where students of the province converge to enroll for tertiary education. The city is also a popular educational destination for students of surrounding provinces and cities in Visayas and Mindanao. The city is best known for Silliman University, the first Philippine university outside Manila and the country's first Protestant school. The Foundation University is the first non-sectarian educational institution in the Visayas region. There are also 12 elementary schools and 9 high schools. The city's student population is estimated at 30,000. The city attracts a considerable number of foreign tourists, particularly Europeans, because of easy ferry access from Cebu City, the availability of beach resorts and dive sites, and the attraction of dolphin and whale watching in nearby Bais Bay. There is an abundance of activities and entertainment through out all the Bay Front Area including for the whole family to experience. Dining - Suffice it to say that due to the Bay Front Area's location as a gateway city, its dining fabric has grown rich with people who have come from all corners of the world and brought with them their culinary traditions. Dumaguete City is 10-15 minutes drive from Airport and 5-minutes walk from the City Ports. Transportation from the airport to your destination is provided by rental cars, taxies or the hotel bus shuttle. Dumaguete City has two seasons, namely; the dry and the wet seasons. The wet season covers the period from June to November, and the dry season starts from December to May, the hottest being April and May.
